Audiobooks.com has four audiobook related functions: buy, rent, download and trade. This audiobook service has some good aspects—the audiobooks are sorted into many categories and they offer an excellent search function. Nevertheless, the site as a whole is difficult to navigate.
The “catalog” page categories aren't in any particular order and the site seems to branch out in so many different directions it's somewhat difficult to know which way to go to find what you want.
Audiobooks.com has three purchasing options: buy an audiobook on CD or cassette, rent a CD or cassette and buy an audiobook download. The service also has a trade–in plan where you can trade in a used audiobook for credits to buy a new audiobook.
You can browse eight different catalogs and then search categories in each catalog. The eight catalogs are: Full Length Unabridged Titles, Compact Discs, Sale new 30% off, Best Sellers Audio Pics, New Releases, Future Releases “In The Studio”, Sale – Used 50% Off and MP3 CDs. Or you can search their comprehensive Catalog.
A search box allows you to search by author, performer, title and publisher. You can also limit your search to all editions or full length (unabridged) only.
The library of audiobooks is divided into categories and subcategories. Audiobooks.com has audiobooks on all of the major topics. However, the categories are unorganized and we found a number of categories that didn’t have any books in them.
Audiobooks.com has the biggest inventory of audiobooks on the web; they have more than 60,000 titles.
The audiobook price varies depending on the book. Rental prices are slightly more expensive than other services. Rental prices are: 2 Rentals out at one time is $25.00/month, 3 Rentals out at one time is $35.00/month and 4 Rentals out at one time is $45.00/month. Six and 12 month discounted rental plans are available.
The site as a whole is harder to navigate than most and seems somewhat cluttered. As you search the categories, there are long alphabetical lists of audiobooks and there are no pictures.
Audiobooks.com has a user guide to teach you the ins and outs of using the service. You can contact customer support via email. They responded to our email in good time with relevant information.
Audiobooks.com has a huge inventory and may have some hard–to–find titles. However, the titles are hard to find; the website would be more appealing if it was redesigned and re–organized.
